Meet Emma Kneller
B.HK, C. PED (C)
Canadian Certified Pedorthist, Owner
Emma studied at the University of British Columbia Okanagan, where she earned her Human Kinetics degree in 2017. Emma has always had a passion for helping people and assisting them with injury prevention, injury recovery, and post-operative bracing, as well as improving athletic performance through custom knee bracing. For over 6 years, she worked at physiotherapy clinics building bracing programs. This involved working with physiotherapists, massage therapists, sports medicine doctors, physiatrists and orthopedic surgeons.
Emma has been passionate about education and this led to bracing education talks at the KGH Casting Clinic as well as at UBCO for the student athletic trainers.
With Emma's passion for education and helping people, she looked to find new skills to better assist her patients. This is what started her path to becoming a Canadian Certified Pedorthist. Emma graduated with a Diploma in Pedorthics with distinction from Western University. Emma moved to Vancouver to complete her practicum with one of Canada's largest pedorthic companies and has returned to bring the newest techniques and education to the Kelowna community.
Emma is passionate about getting you back on your feet and helping aid your recovery from pain and overall better movement.

What is a Canadian Certified Pedorthist?Canadian Certified Pedorthists are defined by the Pedorthic Association of Canada as "allied healthcare professionals trained in the assessment of lower limb anatomy and biomechanics. They specialize in the design, fit, and modification of custom-made orthotics, orthopaedic footwear, and braces. They determine a patient’s treatment through a biomechanical exam and gait analysis. The goal of every Canadian Certified Pedorthist is to help patients achieve and maintain proper foot care and lower limb health, and live healthy, active lives. Through a sustained relationship between pedorthist and patient – and depending on the precise nature of a specific patient’s condition – pedorthic care can help prevent further pain and debilitation, and the related inconvenience and expense for patients, insurers, and the healthcare system."

When should I see a Pedorthist? You should see a Pedorthist if you would like information on how you are moving and walking and would like a treatment plan on how you can improve. You do not need to be in pain to see a Pedorthist, and you do not need to be looking for custom orthotics. Though custom orthotics may be recommended based on your Biomechanical Assessment, a Pedorthist will also provide a treatment plan with footwear recommendations and stretching and strengthening exercises.
-
What are custom foot orthotics?Custom foot orthotics are inserts that go into your footwear to correct alignment, aid in better movement and can reduce pain.
-
Do I need custom orthotics? Not everyone needs custom orthotics, though many people can benefit from them. The best way to find out if custom orthotics are the right for you is to book a Biomechanical Assessment.
-
What is a Biomechanical Assessment?A Biomechanical Assessment allows for a snapshot of how you move with a special focus on your lower limbs (hips to toes). This assessment includes gait analysis (how you walk), how your joints move and the range that they move in, and special tests for strength and mobility. Biomechanical Assessments are necessary to be properly assessed for treatment recommendations by the Pedorthist. If you need custom orthotics, you will need to complete a Biomechanical Assessment for the pedorthist to gather the necessary information.
-
What do I need to bring to a Biomechanical Assessment? Please wear clothing you are comfortable moving in. Bring a pair of shorts or wear pants that roll to above the knees. Bring your most commonly worn footwear that you use for work, sports/activities, casual wear and at home. If you have previous orthotics, you are welcome to bring those along.
-
Do I need a Doctor’s prescription before seeing a Pedorthist for a Biomechanical Assessment? You do not need a doctor's prescription to book a Biomechanical Assessment. Your insurance company might require a doctor's prescription to reimburse you for the Biomechanical Assessment fee and/or custom orthotics.
-
Do you direct bill to extended health companies? (ie. Pacific Blue Cross, Canada Life etc.)Extended health companies at this time do not allow Pedorthists direct billing for custom orthotics or Biomechanical Assessments. You will need to pay and submit your receipt yourself to be reimbursed.
-
Do you accept and bill for ICBC or Worksafe BC claims?Yes! We can bill for ICBC and Worksafe BC claims but approval from your claim's adjuster/case manager is needed before proceeding with a Biomechanical Assessment and ordering Custom Orthotics.
